As I stood on that stage for the 4th time, heart pounding, emotions running high, I closed my eyes and just thought about everything it took to get there, knowing in my heart I had not held anything back. Down to the final two contestants, both well deserving of the title, would I finally get my chance? I opened my eyes, and as they called my name as Mrs. Wyoming 2011, it took my breath away. Overwhelmed with emotion, a weight was lifted off my shoulders as the crown was finally placed on my head and the sash was fastened neatly.
I am LaKell Archer, Mrs. Wyoming-America 2011. My quest for the crown was not an easy one. It started in 2007- my very first pageant experience. I learned so much and had so much fun, I competed again in 2008 when I surprised myself and placed 1st-runner-up and received the best in swimsuit award. I HAD to try for the title again and when I came back in 2009, I placed 2nd-runner-up. After that, I decided I was done competing. I tried to walk away and leave it with the two top 5 finishes but I was drawn back to this pageant because I believe in what it stands for- empowering married women to believe in themselves, set goals, and celebrate our marriages and families. I also wanted to compete again for personal reasons, to prove to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to. I laid all my cards out on the table and did not
hold anything back. Finally, all the hard work paid off and I am honored
and privileged to represent this great state for an entire year? Totally
worth it!
My husband, Dewey, and I reside in Southwestern Wyoming where he

works as an electrical estimator and I work full time as a dental hygienist. We have been married for almost 5 years, but have been together for a total of 10 years! We have two dogs, Milo and Tony Wiener Dog, but no children quite yet. I look forward to sharing this experience with him as well as everything the future has in store for us! There isn't a soul in the world I'd rather spend my life with!
I graduated with honors in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from
the University of Wyoming and I really enjoy my job educating my patients on proper
oral health and hygiene. I also enjoy instructing my 5:30AM spinning classes. But
I'm not always stuck indoors! Dewey and I love Wyoming for all the recreation it has
to offer including golfing, hunting, mountain biking, and camping.
I hope that in my persistence in winning the title of Mrs. Wyoming, I can inspire others to follow their dreams and reach their goals. I'd also like to remind people that in life we aren't all given equal advantages and opportunities to succeed. We don't all “win” on our first try-- sometimes we will fail on our way to reaching our goals- that's just life. I also want to remind people that each of us are responsible for our own lives- no excuses. Nobody can change you, fix you, or complete you. Once you realize that YOU are in charge of your own life, you get freed and you will “win” every goal you set your mind to.
I look forward to the year ahead as Mrs. Wyoming 2011 and I am going to work hard to represent Wyoming's married women. I promise to uphold the integrity of this pageant and what it stands for. I will spend my year inspiring people of all ages to set goals for themselves and hold themselves accountable in the face of adversity- because I do not believe in giving up! If there is one thing EVERY person should do-- It is to conquer what challenges them...
